Bastille Day Word Search Game

Bastille Day is a French National Day celebrating the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789.

Bastille Day is celeberated with fireworks, parades and nationwide festivities. Bastille Day is the name given to this day in English speaking countries, but in French it is called Fête nationale.

The storming of the Bastille, a military fortress and prison, was a turning point in the French Revolution. The Bastille held gundpowder and other supplies the revolutionaries needed, but it also symbolized the tyranny of the French monarchy, especially King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette. While the people of France were suffering through a famine caused by crop failures in 1788, the King and Queen continued to spend extravagantly. "Let them eat Cake!"
