The capital is Hartford while Bridgeport is the largest city. According to history books, Denmark-born Adriaen Block was the first man to explore the Connecticut valley in 1614. It became state on January 9, 1788.

An interesting trivia about the state is that it is where cattle branding began. Back then, farmers were required by law to mark all of their pigs. Connecticut is also where the first car insurance as issued, and is home to the oldest newspaper that is still being published today: the Hartford Courant.
