Kansas is situated in the Great Plains region of the United States. Kansas is considered the geographical center of the country. It has a long history of the American West which is often featured in Hollywood movies.

The official nickname of Kansas is The Sunflower State, although it is also called the Jayhawker State, the Wheat State or the Heart of America. The capital of Kansas is Topeka while the largest city is Wichita. The name Kansas was derived from a Sioux word which means “People of the South Wind”.

The exploration of Kansas as a state started in 1673, when French and Canadians arrived in the land. In 1803, Kansas was purchased from France under the Louisiana Purchase and it officially entered statehood on January 29, 1861. The first-ever Pizza Hut restaurant was in Wichita, Kansas; it’s the land of Wyatt Earp and Amelia Earhart; and the state is a top manufacturer or airplanes.
