Samuel de Champlain was the one who charted the coastline of New England and from there, Massachusetts became the most important of the 13 colonies. On February 6, 1788, Massachusetts was officially admitted to the Union.

The state dessert of Massachusetts is the Boston cream pie, the official bloom is Mayflower, and the state tree is the American Elm. Another delicious trivia about Massachusetts is that it is where the chocolate chip cookie was invented in 1930.
