Sustainability - The 4Rs - Rethink
Your Ecological Footprint
Your Ecological Footprint
Most people in the richer countries of the world use huge amounts of resources and produce a lot of waste. They have a very large ecological footprint.
For example, if everyone in the world lived the same way as people do in the USA:
- We would need 5 planets to provide enough resources for everyone!
- And in 50 years’ time we would need 8 planets!
But we only have 1 planet Earth. And everyone who lives on it must share it.
The world’s resources are not distributed, or shared evenly. People in the richer countries make up only 20% of the world’s population but use about 80% of the world’s resources.
It is not fair if the people in the poorer countries have to stay poor so the people in the richer countries can carry on living the way they do.
